Our best example is a backyard in Alpharetta, right next door. The lot was too steep to use. We stepped the hill down with terraced block retaining walls, connected each level with natural stone slab steps and built a long curved block wall below the deck. It depends on the slope and how much room you have. Terraces break a hill into shorter walls and add flat levels you can use. We'll walk the site and explain the options.

Block or natural stone for a retaining wall?

We build both. Block is uniform and tidy. Natural stone has a rougher look that suits wooded Roswell lots.

My yard is eroding. Is that a wall problem or a drainage problem?

Often it's both. We look at where the water comes from first, because a wall without good drainage won't fix it.

Do you build stone steps on hillsides?
